New walkway installation

A cracked or missing walkway is more than an eyesore. It’s a trip hazard that gets worse with every freeze-thaw cycle the Lower Mainland delivers. We install Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways for front entrances, side yards, backyard paths, and connections between structures like garages and garden sheds. Every installation starts with Excavation & Site Preparation, followed by Gravel Base Preparation & Soil Compaction and Steel Reinforcement & Rebar Installation so the finished surface stays level for decades. That proper foundation is what separates a walkway that lasts from one that cracks within a few seasons.

Old walkway removal and replacement

Patching a walkway that sits on a failing subgrade (the compacted soil and gravel layer beneath the concrete) wastes money because the new surface will crack again within a year or two. Our Old Concrete Removal & Demolition (Re & Re Services) crew strips the existing slab, corrects the base, and pours a properly reinforced replacement. Addressing the root cause rather than covering it up means you pay once instead of twice, and you eliminate the uneven edges that catch heels and trip visitors.

Finish options to match your home

Broom Finish Concrete adds a textured surface that resists slipping in wet weather, making it the most popular choice for walkways across Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver. Smooth Finish Concrete delivers a clean, modern look suited to covered side paths. Exposed Aggregate Finishes reveal natural stone for a decorative, durable surface. Stamped Concrete & Decorative Concrete and Coloured Concrete let you coordinate your walkway with your patio or driveway. Each finish is applied by hand, and Obada’s crew walks you through samples before any concrete is poured so the result matches your vision.

Tight-access walkway projects

Narrow side yards and fenced backyards stop many contractors before they start. Our micro mini excavator and tracked dumper fit through openings as narrow as four feet, so we handle Excavation & Site Preparation in tight residential spaces without tearing down fences or damaging landscaping. That capability means homeowners in older neighbourhoods across Delta, Ladner, and New Westminster get the same quality walkway installation as properties with wide-open access.

What homeowners say about their new walkways

I just wanted to say what a great job Coastal Concrete did on our front yard sidewalk! As this was our front yard we were a bit nervous, but he quickly put our minds at ease with his feedback and suggestions. This was very reassuring for us. They showed up on time, worked hard, responded to all of our calls and text messages, and were prompt to get the work done (pending the weather of course). It was a very positive experience and we highly recommend them to anyone.

Great crew. Price point is excellent and the quality of work is amazing. They come first thing and complete the work on time and on budget. They also go above and beyond by moving items that may be in the way and replace it when they are done. They also text you updates and pictures of progress at day end. I highly recommend this company!

Is a walkway replacement right for your property

Not every cracked walkway needs full replacement, but most do. Here’s how to tell the difference and avoid spending money on a fix that won’t hold.

Safety first
if anyone in your household has mobility concerns, an uneven walkway is an immediate risk worth addressing now rather than patching temporarily.
Long-term cost
a full replacement with proper Gravel Base Preparation & Soil Compaction typically lasts 25 to 30 years, while patching a failed base usually fails again within one to two years.
Curb appeal
a new walkway with a coordinated finish can visibly improve your home’s entrance and property value.

When it fits

  • Your walkway has settled unevenly, creating lips or raised edges that catch feet. This is a sign the subgrade has failed, and resurfacing alone won’t correct the slope.
  • Cracks run through the full depth of the slab or appear in multiple sections. Deep structural cracks indicate the reinforcement or base layer can no longer support the concrete.

When it may not

  • Hairline surface cracks on an otherwise level slab. These are cosmetic and can often be sealed without a full pour.
  • The walkway is less than ten years old and only one small section has shifted. A targeted repair of that section may be more practical than replacing the entire path.

Replacing a deteriorating walkway with properly prepared concrete eliminates trip hazards, improves curb appeal, and lasts decades. Patching over a failing subgrade is a temporary fix that costs more in the long run. If your walkway is uneven or deeply cracked, replacement is the practical investment.

Walkways · FAQ

Common questions about concrete walkways

How long does a concrete walkway installation take?

Most residential walkway projects take two to three days from demolition through final finishing. Larger projects or those requiring extensive excavation in tight-access areas may take an additional day. Obada provides a clear timeline during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.

Why shouldn’t I just patch my cracked walkway?

Patching covers the surface but doesn’t fix the subgrade underneath. If the gravel base has eroded or the soil has settled, new concrete laid on top will crack again within a year or two. A proper replacement addresses the root cause, giving you a level, safe surface that lasts decades.

What concrete finish is safest for a walkway?

Broom Finish Concrete is the most common choice for walkways because the textured surface provides traction in rain and frost. Exposed Aggregate Finishes also offer natural grip from the stone surface. Our crew helps you choose the right finish based on your property’s drainage, sun exposure, and aesthetic preferences.

Can you install a walkway in a narrow side yard?

Yes. Our micro mini excavator and tracked dumper fit through openings as narrow as four feet, which means we can excavate and pour in tight residential spaces without removing fences or damaging landscaping. This capability is especially useful for older homes across the Lower Mainland.

How much does a new concrete walkway cost?

Walkway costs depend on the length, width, site conditions, and chosen finish. Broom finish is the most economical option, while Stamped Concrete & Decorative Concrete and Exposed Aggregate Finishes are higher. We provide a detailed written estimate after an on-site visit so you can compare your options with clear numbers.
